The spinothalamic tracts carry pain, temperature, and crude touch from the body: lateral for pain/temp, anterior for touch/pressure. Fibers cross in the spinal cord shortly after entry, ascend contralaterally to thalamus, then to somatosensory cortex—explaining contralateral deficits in cord lesions.
