The aortic valve sinuses (of Valsalva) form three pocket-like dilations just above the aortic valve cusps. The right sinus gives origin to the right coronary artery, the left sinus to the left coronary artery, and the posterior (non-coronary) sinus has no major branch. These sinuses allow coronary filling during diastole and support valve closure.
