Diabetes Nutrition Counseling
Introduction Nutrition therapy and counselling are an integral part of the treatment and self-management of diabetes.
Key Messages People with diabetes should receive nutrition counselling by a registered dietitian. Nutrition therapy can reduce glycated hemoglobin (A1C) by 1.0% to 2.0% and, when used with other components of diabetes care, can further improve clinical and metabolic outcomes.
But that doesn’t mean other members of the health care team can’t be involved in nutrition counseling. Every member of the health care team can play an important role in helping people get on track by offering basic information on eating and nutrition.
