Iliac Node Image

Iliac lymph nodes. They are located above the pelvis and receive drainage from the sacral, external iliac and internal iliac groups of lymph nodes. They mainly drain lymph into the caval and aortic groups of lymph nodes. Some direct lymph drainage into the common iliac nodes occurs from some pelvic organs, for example,…
Iliac lymph nodes The location and number of several groups and sub-groups of lymph nodes receiving lymph drainage from the pelvic organs vary but four main groups are well known and can be described as follows: External iliac nodes: These group of lymph nodes are located above the pelvic brim, along the external iliac vessels.
They form a cluster around the anterior and posterior divisions of the internal iliac artery and the origins of the gluteal arteries. They receive drainage from the inferior pelvic viscera, deep perineum, and gluteal region and like the external iliac nodes, drain into the common iliac nodes.

Lymph Node Structure Diagram

Lymph node is small, oval or bean-shaped body. It is a collection of lymphoid tissue enclosed in a connective tissue capsule and lying along the lymphatic stream. From the capsule, strands of tissue pass into the substance of the node and are known as the connective tissue trabeculae. In the human lymphatic nodes the trabeculae are ill-defined.
Lymph nodes are important structures of the lymphatic system of the thorax and abdomen. They are small, oval or kidney-shaped encapsulated centres of antigen presentation and lymphocyte activation, differentiation and proliferation. They vary in size from 0.1 to 2.5 cm in length.
The lymphoide tissues in the nodes break down materials which have been filtered off such as microorganisms, tumor cells and cells damaged by inflammation. Lymphocyte develops from the reticular and lymphoid tissue in the nodes. Antibodies and antitoxins are also formed by the cells of lymph nodes.
